Round table: Palilula our home – Integration of returnees under the readmission agreements into the local community
2008-03-26
On March 7 2008, as a final activity of the project, a round table was held at the Majestic Hotel in Belgrade. The round table was attended by 55 participants – representatives of the City Centre for Social Work. Health Centre Palilula, Palilula Municipality, Ministry of Labour and Social Policy of the Republic of Serbia, Service for Human and Minority Right, international and nongovernmental organisations, embassies, media, etc. They all actively participated in the dynamic discussion following the presentations related to the returnee issue.
The opening comments were made by Group 484 Executive Director Miodrag Shrestha, Palilula Municipality Assembly member Igor Jojikić and the Social Innovation Fund Director Danilo Vuković. The following presentations preceded the discussion:
- Presenting Group 484’s research on returnees in the territory of the Palilula municipality, Danilo Rakić, Group 484;
- The case review of the Centre for Social Work Palilula, Nadežda Marković, social worker;
- The case review from practice – group work with women from the Palilula municipality, Leposava Mitrović, Group 484;
- From the civil society perspective: the need for intersectoral cooperation in working with returnees, Dr Nataša Ljubomirović, Group 484.
The presented research encompassed a proportion of the population faced with the problems of readmission in the territory of the Palilula municipality. The research had been previously distributed to the round table participants via electronic mail and served as the groundwork for discussion.
All the participants agreed that the only possibility of assisting returnees is a coordinated, harmonised action of relevant institutions, international and nongovernmental organisations.
